Animal Doctor offers chronic pain care management for cats and dogs. We accept referrals and provide second opinions.

Description: Animals are very skilled at finding ways to hide or compensate from pain that they are feeling from arthritis, dental disease, or other metabolic diseases.

Symptoms & What to look for: Symptoms from chronic pain can very from very subtle signs such as decreased activity or appetite to more severe signs such as lethargy, not moving or not eating for extended periods of time. Monitor your pet daily to ensure they are eating, drinking and performing normal tasks or activities.

How does it happen? Chronic pain can develop from a multitude of diseases.

What questions do we ask?

  • What changes have you noticed?
  • How long have you noticed a change(s)?
  • Any changes in activity level?
  • Any changes in Appetite?
  • Any changes in Thirst/ urination?
  • What kind of food are you feeding? How much per day? Table scraps/ treats?
  • Any recent history of Coughing/ sneezing? Contact with other animals?
  • Any recent history of Vomiting?
  • Any recent history of Diarrhea?

What are the steps we take to treat your pet?

  • Depending on the symptoms you are seeing at home and our physical exam findings we will likely recommend further diagnostics such as bloodwork and/or radiographs.

How do we arrive at a diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan?

  • After physical examination and further diagnostics we will likely have a diagnosis and treatment plan specific for your pet’s condition.
