Vaccinations

Animal Doctor offers vaccinations for dogs and cats of varying ages. We accept referrals and provide second opinions.

Description: Preventative care and vaccinations are the cornerstone to your pet's wellness and well being. At Animal Doctor, we take your pet's health seriously. We recommend beginning preventative health and vaccinations between the first 6-8 weeks of your puppy/kitten's life. At this point, puppies and kittens must begin increasing their immunity.

What are core vaccines? A core vaccine is a vaccination that is recommended for all pets.

What are non-core vaccines? A non-core vaccine is a vaccination that is only recommended for some pets, depending on their lifestyle.

What questions do we ask?

  • Any vomiting/ diarrhea/ coughing/ sneezing out of the ordinary?
  • Does your pet have wildlife exposure (including backyard)?
  • Any history of a vaccine reaction? If so, what vaccination and what reaction?
  • Is the patient on any medications? Include dosage and frequency.
  • Are you administering heartworm preventative? What type and how often?
  • Are you administering flea/ tick preventative? What type and how often?
  • What kind of food are you feeding? How much per day? Table scraps/ treats?

What are the risks if I don't vaccinate my pet?

  • By not vaccinating your pet(s) appropriately, they are susceptible to multiple, painful, often deadly, diseases that can decrease their quality of life and their lifespan.

  • You are also exposing yourself and others to potentially deadly zoonotic diseases (those transmitted from pets to people), including Rabies and Leptospirosis.

Puppy Vaccination Schedule

At Animal Doctor, we recommend beginning preventative health and vaccinations between the first 6-8 weeks of life. After receiving the first round of vaccinations and deworming, we will want to see your pet every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age. This helps increase their immunity and prevent disease and illness. We strongly recommend ALL puppies receive core vaccinations and some non-core vaccinations to prevent the spread of disease! After 16 weeks, we will want to see your pet for annual boosters to maintain immunity and provide a routine check-up to catch disease early on. Our recommended puppy vaccination and wellness schedule is as follows:
