Welcoming a new puppy or kitten to your family is a tremendous experience. At Animal Doctor, we are aware of the time and effort that goes into the care and training of your new family member. Vaccinations
Preventative care and vaccinations are the cornerstone to your pet's wellness and well being. At Animal Doctor, we take your pet's health seriously. We recommend beginning preventative health and vaccinations between the first 6-8 weeks of your puppy/kitten's life. At this point, puppies and kittens must begin increasing their immunity.
Spays & Neuters
Animal Doctor recommends neutering/spaying your new puppy or kitten to eliminate aggression, prevent disease and cancer, and prevent unwanted pregnancies. It is ideal to spay/neuter a cat at 6 months, and a puppy between 4-6 months for small breeds and 1-2 years for large breeds. Spaying and neutering your pet does not deprive him or her of any element of their life that he/she is aware of or needs. While your pet will no longer be able to reproduce, your pet experiences better overall health, calmer and better socialized behavior, and less issues later on in life.

Microchipping
Microchipping is highly recommended for pet owners because becoming separated from a pet can happen too easily. A microchip is implanted in your pet to provide identification when a pet is lost. The owner's contact information are entered into a database that can be searched when someone scans the microchip. Placing a microchip can be done at any time; however, if planning to spay or neuter, placing a microchip during the surgery can be the most comfortable for your pet.

Puppy Vaccination Schedule
At Animal Doctor, we recommend beginning preventative health and vaccinations between the first 6-8 weeks of life. After receiving the first round of vaccinations and deworming, we will want to see your pet every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age. This helps increase their immunity and prevent disease and illness. We strongly recommend ALL puppies receive core vaccinations and some non-core vaccinations to prevent the spread of disease! After 16 weeks, we will want to see your pet for annual boosters to maintain immunity and provide a routine check-up to catch disease early on. Our recommended puppy vaccination and wellness schedule is as follows:Visit 1 (6 to 8 weeks of age):
- New puppy examination
- Distemper parvo vaccination #1 of 4
- Obtain a fecal sample to check for intestinal parasites (or bring a fresh sample)
- Deworming for intestinal parasites
- Begin heartworm / flea & tick prevention (Heartgard & NexGard)
- Brief examination
- Distemper parvo vaccination #2 of 4
- Bordetella vaccination
- Deworming for intestinal parasites
- Heartworm / flea & tick prevention
- Brief examination

At Animal Doctor, we recommend beginning preventative health and vaccinations between the first 6-8 weeks of life. After receiving the first round of vaccinations and deworming, we will want to see your kitten every 4-6 weeks until 16 weeks of age. This helps increase their immunity and prevent disease and illness. We strongly recommend ALL kittens receive core vaccinations and some non-core vaccinations to prevent the spread of disease!
